The Art Studio at
Creative Genius...
Our new studio is open!
We've recently expanded and our new studio now has a separate rear entrance,
parking for students and a nice comfortable environment in which to learn. Our
goal is to provide true art instruction in a stress-free environment for
both children and adults. Since everyone has a creative genius hidden
within, we feel it is our job to encourage everyone to tap into that hidden
side. Our class environments are reasonably small to allow a lot of individualized
attention from instructors. And our programs are ongoing: you can sign up at
any time and begin working with our instructors without any time restraints
set on your learning process. Since our classes are "pay as you go", you
decide what kind of time frame works for you.

ART CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Wheel-thrown Pottery
Ages 8 through adult
This class reviews the basics of handling clay and
offers instruction in hand-building pieces as well as creating pieces
utilizing a potter’s wheel. This class covers many methods of creating with
clay. Students will also explore the use of glazes for
different effects. This class is NOT a paint your own pottery class.
You will learn how to create a piece from a mound of clay-you will not be
working with pre-fabricated or molded pieces that just need cleaning and
painting. Working with clay involves really digging in and getting your
hands dirty and your imagination going. Students will truly be creating their own individual works of art. The teacher has worked in pottery for over 30
years and will share his techniques and tips with you as part of the
instruction.

OUR
INSTRUCTORS
Our instructors
are certified teachers who are educated in art techniques and in assisting
children and adults in learning techniques and methods. They create
interesting programs for all levels of experience and for all kinds of
interests. Both teachers offer our students a chance to really grow and
enjoy the learning process in a casual environment close to home.
Chris Holt
,along with his wife, Julie, owns and operates
Creative Genius Art Gallery & Studio on Main Street in
Medford. He is a lifelong South Jersey resident whose education includes The
Art Institute of Philadelphia, Camden County College and Rowan University
and he has worked successfully in various positions within the advertising,
art and printing industries for the past 25 years. Currently he is a high
school teacher and is the creator of the Commercial Arts curriculum at
Burlington City High School. Chris is an outstanding potter with over 30
years of pottery experience, making him a
natural at teaching the true art of working with clay. Not only can he teach
you about creative painting techniques for your pottery creations, he can
educate you on how to take a blob of wet clay and turn it into your own
personal work of art using wheel-throwing, coil or slab building methods. If
you are going to paint someone else's pottery design, you can go just about
anywhere. If you want to learn the true art of working with clay, you should
learn from an expert. Chris also regularly shows and sells his own creations
through Creative Genius Art Gallery and Studio. He can often be found
demonstrating wheel-throwing techniques during Medford street festivals or
teaching one of his four daughters how to create their next wheel-thrown
pottery creation.
Michele Grady,
jewelry artist extraordinaire and jewelry and PMC class instructor. Michele has been
interested in art throughout her life. She started working with acrylics,
pastels and oils at a young age, moving on to three-dimensional art such as
paper-mache and wheel-thrown pottery as she grew up. Eventually this lead to
metals, which she has been working with for over 12 years. She has taken a
class here and there to learn the basics but most of her skills are self
taught and were acquired by trial and error. Her work is sold in many
galleries through out the United States including Creative Genius! She now
teaches her studio jewelry classes and PMC classes out of our studio here at
Creative Genius...

PARTIES...
 |
Art
parties are customized to suit the age range of the group and the needs the group may
have. This includes showers, corporate team building events, meetings and
birthday parties. We'll even do ladies nights out for you and your friends. We can discuss options for party activities with you to
create a fun-filled afternoon or evening. We will host a party with you
after regular operating hours as well. Let us know what you have in mind and
we will work with you to create your event. Or contact us to have our party
brochure sent directly to you!
Everything is customized for your group and we
have packages that include everything but a birthday cake...let us know how
we can help you bring art into your special event! Some basic parameters:
|
 |
We
can accommodate between 8 and 15 people in our studio for art parties. The
minimum for parties is 8 people and the maximum is 15 people.
|
 |
Parties are 1 1/2 hours long. In this time period we complete an art activity,
guests eat pizza or
snacks (depending upon party package chosen), presents get opened and cake
is served. If
your child will be opening presents at home, the party will be completed
after cake is served. (Please note that none of our packages include cake).
|
 |
Parties are held on Friday evenings or Saturday afternoons. Other times are
available so please inquire (availability depends upon prior bookings and
other activities scheduled for the studio, where parties are held)
|
 |
Parties should be booked at least 4 weeks in advance to allow enough time
for your customized event to be prepared.
|
 |
The
minimum recommended age for children is 7 years old. Since parties are held
in a working art studio it is important for children to be able to follow
instructions and be able to be considerate of their environment.
|
 |
Activities available for parties are numerous and available with different
packages. Among the activities are finger smear painting, polymer clay,
memory wire bracelets and necklaces, and paint your own pottery (add'l
charge per person). If you have an activity in mind, just let us know and
we'll do our best to work with your group.
