Medford Gallery Celebrates Spring with New Growth

Creative Genius Art Gallery and Studio Announces Expansion

MEDFORD, NJ Creative Genius Art Gallery and Studio formally announces the expansion of its Medford, NJ gallery and art studio.

Something new is blooming for spring at Creative Genius Art Gallery & Studio!

The fine art and fine craft gallery and studio located in the heart of Medford, has expanded, relocating their studio to additional new space located behind the current gallery space. As a result, the gallery space has increased by 25%. Owners Julie Basello-Holt and Chris Holt are excited about the additional gallery space and the new studio space has really been a great addition as well. "The additional gallery space not only allows us to offer our clients even more exciting art but also increases our exhibit space", says Basello-Holt. "It’s great to see our clients’ reactions when they enter the gallery and see how much larger it appears. There have been lots of oohs and aahs"

The change in the studio has been popular with clients too. The new space has offered the opportunity to book even more events for both children and adults including additional weekly classes, a full schedule of workshops, girl scout clay and ceramics badge classes, custom art parties and more. Current weekly offerings include Pottery (wheel throwing and hand-building, Mom and Me Pottery Classes for children under 5, Digital Photography for Kids, Painting and Drawing for Kids, Painting and Drawing for Adults, and Jewelry classes (metal-smithing). Workshop offerings include many jewelry options as well as mosaics, stained glass and one on one Adult Digital Photography classes. Some workshop programs being explored right now are Fused Glass Plate workshop, Painting Techniques workshops by many local and visiting artists/instructors, Weaving for Beginners and more. The studio also hosts Girl Scout Pottery Badge Classes where scouts can earn their pottery badge and custom art parties for both children and adults. Basello-Holt stresses that adults have just as much fun as children do in the parties they book. "Art parties are a great way to get together with friends, learn something new and enjoy time spent together", she says.

If you have never been to Creative Genius Art Gallery & Studio you are in for a visual treat. Named Best Art Gallery in SJ Magazine’s Best of SJ Issue, the contemporary fine art and fine craft gallery is dedicated to offering hand-crafted decorative and functional fine art and fine craft created by over 150 artists both locally and from throughout the United States. SJ Arts-October 2005 Issue

See our state through a new lens

09/30/05
A new photography exhibit turns a joke about New Jersey into a point of pride.

Titled “What Exit?,” the show offers an offbeat travelogue of the Garden State from a dozen or so photographers.

“The goal is to get a look at New Jersey that no one expects,” says Julie Basello-Holt, who is holding the show at Creative Genius, her Medford gallery and studio.

“So many people think New Jersey is just the Turnpike,” says the transplanted New Yorker. “I wanted to show what you could see when you get off the highway.”

While the display includes some pastoral scenes, it leans toward the more unusual, says Basello-Holt.

“If you like generic landscape photography, this isn’t the exhibit for you,” she laughs.

Indeed, one photo shows an old Campbell’s Soup water tower as it’s being knocked down in Camden.

Another piece contrasts a graffitied wall with its ocean backdrop, highlighting the revitalization of Asbury Park.

“A lot of images show the idea of rebuilding,” says Basello-Holt. “As photographers, we have a responsibility to capture the old, so people can look back at it.”

Other works focus on the state’s unique features. For instance, Lucy the Elephant – a historic landmark and former Margate hotel – is captured from several perspectives.

“There’s so much character here that goes unnoticed,” says the gallery owner, who hopes to illustrate such cultural treasures.

Among the photographers invited to exhibit are Gina Hanf, Jim Sutton, Leigh-Anne Taylor, Everett Landers, and Heather Summerville. Basello-Holt and her husband, Chris Holt, also will show their works.

At press time, Basello-Holt had planned to arrange the exhibit in order of Turnpike exits, even using a copy of a toll-booth ticket to show the various stops. She wants the display to inspire people to take a detour off that ubiquitous highway and better appreciate her adopted home state.

“I love New Jersey,” she says. “I wanted to do a little tribute.”

What Exit? is at Creative Genius Art Gallery and Studio, 32B North Main Street, Medford. Opening reception: Sat Oct 15 – 7 to 10p. Show runs thru Nov 5: Tue, Fri, Sat – 10a to 5p; Wed, Thu – 10a to 9p. Info: 609-714-1131
